Speaking to Ana today, as the degree show is our only opportunity to show our work, it is very much acceptable to have a longer, more complex experience that requires going over all the platforms I had planned. The focus of my thesis could be on incentives and motivations for joining a community / cult / religion. I am going to do some research into the psychology of this, and see how I can narrow that down, possibly focusing on status within the community as the main incentive.

The research question would have to be a qualitative one, where perhaps 10 people test out my experience. The experience would be a commentary that sits adjacent to the research question, rather than being something that is used to answer the question.

Key notes from the discussion:

 – Incentives of having things others don’t have – strive for purity

 – What people will do to be accepted in the community

 – Incentives to go to the next platform

 – Psychology papers – incentives and motivation connection

 – What drives people in a religion?

 – Commentary through the platforms

 – Spirituality because of these needs

 – Wanting to be part of the community
