The AR app is now working as desired. On opening the app, after an explanatory message of what the challenge is, the game begins. The devotee must walk at least 500 steps while clearing away any trash (by touch) found along the way. Once 500 registered steps are recorded, and there is no longer any trash in the environment around the devotee, they have completed the challenge, and given the code to continue on their pilgrimage. This is made using a step counter and AR plane manager, through which, a piece of trash is able to instantiate every 10 steps if a new surface is found. This means a maximum of 50 pieces of trash along the journey, but likely less as new surfaces may not be found every 10 steps.
As the mechanisms for this are working well, the next step is jazzing up the look of the app.
Ideas:
- sound when trash picked up
- randomised trash object to pick up (rather than always a crumpled coke can as it is now)
- buzzing sound when trash appears so devotee knows where to looks
- particle effect when trash touched
- power bar to visually show steps increasing
- formatting of texts, fonts, and colours to fit the rest of the graphics
Other possible app expansions if time (not part of pilgrimage, but side quests) :
- Mini trash sorter game
